Yesterdag I visited the lovely exposition Amsterdam 1845-1875, The First Photographs in the Amsterdam City Archives. Amsterdam doesn’t look quite the same anymore. The highlight of the visit wasn’t a photo that was displayed on the expo, but one that I bumped into in another part of the City Archive. It’s a picture taken by Nico van der Stam of the (unremarkable) Paternostersteeg (alley) in the old centre of Amsterdam.
